Some of the key influences are as follows:
  1. Government of India Act, 1935: The Government of India Act, 1935, served as a significant source of inspiration for the Indian Constitution. Many provisions of the Act, such as federal structure, division of powers, and the concept of the Governor-General, were incorporated into the Indian Constitution.

  2. United Kingdom (UK) Constitution: The Indian Constitution reflects several elements of the UK Constitution, such as parliamentary government, rule of law, bicameralism, and the office of the Prime Minister. The parliamentary system of India is largely modeled on the UK system.

  3. United States (US) Constitution: The Indian Constitution also borrowed some features from the US Constitution, including the concept of a written constitution, the fundamental rights chapter, the judicial review mechanism, and the independence of the judiciary.

  4. Irish Constitution: The directive principles of state policy in the Indian Constitution were inspired by the Irish Constitution. The directive principles lay down guidelines for the government to promote the welfare of the people and the establishment of social justice.

  5. Canadian Constitution: The federal structure of the Indian Constitution, with a division of powers between the Union and the States, is influenced by the Canadian Constitution.

  6. Soviet Constitution: The Indian Constitution drew some ideas related to fundamental duties and the planning commission from the Soviet Constitution.

  7. Australian Constitution: The Indian Constitution derived the concept of the concurrent list, which includes subjects on which both the Union and the States can legislate, from the Australian Constitution.

  8. South African Constitution: The idea of the procedure for the amendment of the Constitution was taken from the South African Constitution.

  9. French Constitution: The ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity, as mentioned in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution, have their origin in the French Revolution and the French Constitution.

  10. Japanese Constitution: The fundamental rights chapter in the Indian Constitution was influenced by the Japanese Constitution

While the Indian Constitution borrowed from various sources, it also adapted and tailored these elements to suit India’s unique social, cultural, and political context. The framers of the Constitution carefully blended different principles and features to create a constitutional framework that reflects the aspirations of a diverse and democratic nation like India.
